Hi all, students GPA > 3.5
ITE graduating students who have applied and gain admission to full-time Diploma courses in Year 2007 (esp those who have submitted their Probational Placement Exercise (PPE) applications to HQ Admission office) will be eligible to apply for the following Scholarships :
1. Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading or LKY-STEP
Comprises a one-off cash quantum of $3,500 plus waiver of tuition fees for the duration of the Diploma study. Up to 10 LKY-STEP will be awarded each year.
2. Tay Eng Soon (TES) Scholarship
Comprises a once-off cash quantum of $2,500. A max of 6 TES scholarships will be awarded to the top recipients of the LKY-STEP.
For more details on the scholarship award, please see attached "Notes to applicants".
Please encourage your graduating students who meet the eligibility criteria to apply for the LKT-STEP and TES scholarship. You may obtain copies of the application forms from Ms Wong Siew Siew (x9663) at 5th floor, College Admin Office, Admin Blk.

There are quite a few potential failures from LQ, due to their attendance. Some did not even turn up for NAPFA Test, and/or taken Theory Test.

Next 2 weeks will be the crucial weeks for me to help them fulfil their components for S&W. Thus it will be good for the whole class to devote just 2 hours per week for the next 2 weeks for clearance of S&W. Thanks.

Any students keen to go Jurong Port

Logistics Dept wants to organise a PSA Port visit but our request was turned down few times due to security reason.
As an alternative, we try Jurong Port and they welcome us.
Date : 9th February 2007 (Friday)
Time : 2.30pm (intend to reach there at about 3.30pm)
Please submit your names to class monitor Ms. Masarah, if you wish to go.
It is NOT compulsory. Jurong Port agrees to have two buses only (about 80 students).
Once we reach Jurong Port, they will assign one tour guide on each bus. As the bus tours around the port, the guide will do the explanation about their operations and the port equipment. None of us will go down the bus.
One of the buses will go Boon Lay MRTwhile the other bus will come back to College East. It is up to the students whether they want to alight at Boon Lay or back to CE.

The NTUC Fairprice Co-operative is offering up to 5 scholarships to outstanding students from ITE pursuing studies in Higher Nitec in Administration, Integrated Logistic Management, Accounting and Nitec in Service Skills (Retail) courses. It is proposed that each College shortlist 5 applicants for submission to NTUC Fairprice for their consideration.

2 The criteria for the Fairprice's Scholarship are :

2.1 Be a full-time student in his/her first or second year of studies;
2.2 Have good academic results and CCA records;
2.3 Be a Singaporean or Permanent Resident.

3 The terms and conditions of the scholarship are as follows :

3.1 The scholarship award for Higher Nitec and Nitec is $1,500 and $1,200 per annum respectively. It is renewable yearly if the scholar maintains good academic results and conduct records;
3.2 The scholar is required to fulfill his/her Industrial Attachment at FairPrice;

launching the sale of these used notebooks (65 nos.) to full-time students from Mon 16 Oct 06 to Fri 20 Oct 06. Students who are interested to purchase the notebooks may register their interest at the Customer & Visitor Centre from 9am to 5pm from 16 to 20 Oct 06. Each complete set of notebook (consiting of the notebook, charger, mouse, port replicator, floppy drive, CD ROM drive & carrier case) will be sold to students at $120 each. Possible places of visit: Bobae Market, Manufacturing company, Warehouse, Distribution Centre, Bangkok International Airport, Seaport.
Cost (include 2-way airfare, accomodation, meals, taxes): Est.max $500

1/3 - Edusave
1/3 - College Funds (not confirmed)
1/3 - Co-payment (Cash or Student Edusave) (if they have)--> CAs,pls assist to check this part. Even if they do not have, we are not trying to stop them from going.

Last 2/3 - We will hold fund-raising activities to help students minimise the amount they have to pay cash out of their own pocket.
Nevertheless, they must be prepared to pay cash should the funds raised are not sufficient.

Assignment:
Students will have to complete an assignment (either individual or group) after returning from the trip. Hence they must be committed and serious.

HK-IVE 4 months Student exchange program

Dear Students,

PROPOSED HONG KONG INSTITUTE OF VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (HKIVE) & ITE STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

We are planning for a Student Exchange programme with HKIVE whereby ITE students would spend one semester studying in HKIVE Tsing Yi campus and taking HKIVE examinations. The examination results would be recognised as part of ITE examination system.

The period of students exchange would be about four months, from 23 Sep 06 to 31 Jan 07. Instead of studying Logistics core module Cargo Documentation & Practices (CDN), Business Communications (BCM) and one elective in Singapore, it is proposed that they will do the equivalent of four Higher Diploma Modules in HKIVE Tsing Yi.

To replace CDN module, it is proposed that two logistics related Higher Diploma Modules, namely International Trade Logistics and Managing Air Cargo Logistics, be studied. The values of HKIVE modules are the in-depth content and higher level coverage, giving value-add to our students’ knowledge in logistics. The 6 credit units earned in HKIVE should be recognised as credits earned for our own CDN module.I

t is proposed that two HK electives be undertaken to cover the ITE elective, namely China Business Studies and Marketing. China Business Studies module develops students’ awareness and insight into Pearl River Delta business environment and to understand current business issues. Marketing module will provide students with the basic understanding of the principles and concepts of marketing. This is to prepare them for analysis of market situations / environment in their future career.

For the balance BCM core module, students will be expected to undertake this module via e-learning in eTutor when they are in HK. Upon their return to Singapore in Feb 2007, they will complete the remaining 40% of the course contents and sit for Mar 07 ITE examinations.

Estimated cost would be $6100 per student, covering return airfare, accommodation and meals. After college subsidy, it is estimated that each student would have to pay $3,200. Efforts are currently being made to negotiate for better rates and higher level of subsidies.

Students with minimum 3.5 GPA (based on last two semesters), good CCA and conduct are invited to apply for this programme. Two Logistics students would be selected to participate in this pioneer run.
